Stocks in Kuwait’s troubled Gulf Bank dive

KUWAIT CITY - Shares in Kuwait’s Gulf Bank dived more than 50 percent when they resumed trading on Tuesday after a six-month suspension over massive losses from derivative trading.

Gulf Bank stocks were trading at 0.45 dinars (1.55 dollars) just after the opening, down 52.6 percent from their last price of 0.95 dinars (3.27 dollars) before they were suspended in October.

DUBAI - A real estate company has published a list of average rents across Dubai as an alternative to the official rent index. 

The unofficial index, compiled by Landmark Advisory, shows an up to date picture of the market and will be published every two months.

It will act as a guide for tenants and landlords alongside the official index by the Real Estate RegulatoryAgency (Rera).

“Rera’s index is quite out of date now as it uses figures from July in 2008, when the market was at itspeak,” said Charles Neil, CEO of Landmark Advisory.

“Our philosophy is to put as much information out there as possible.

“There is not a lot of data available at the moment.”

TEHRAN - An Iranian-American journalist has gone on trial in Iran for spying for the United States and a verdict is expected soon, the judiciary said on Tuesday.

 

Washington says the charges against Roxana Saberi, who has reported for the BBC, National Public Radio and other media, are baseless and has demanded her immediate release.
